Swapping the sand of Millville for Washougal's hard-packed dirt, 5.11 Triumph Factory Racing has completed the eighth round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship with further progress for the TF 450-X-mounted duo of Jordon Smith and Mikkel Haarup. Smith led the team in the 450MX overall classification, capturing eighth.

The momentum that Smith has accumulated in recent weeks continued to roll in the 450MX's first moto, thanks in part to another successful start aboard his TF 450-X. Rounding the first lap in ninth place, he pushed up to seventh, however, with just two laps to go, he lost a position to his storied rival and crossed the line eighth. It was a further eighth in moto two, after another positive start completed a consistent day for Smith and placed him in the top 10 overall for the third consecutive week.

An uncharacteristic, bad start hindered Haarup in moto one; outside of the top 30 in the initial moments he had a lot of work to do on a track that's notoriously hard to pass on. Despite breaking his nose last time out, Haarup’s ride was inspired, where few could stop him as he made 21 moves (more than anyone in the class) to claim 12th. The second moto was made easier by starting in seventh, where he battled in the lower half of the top 10 and was en route to eighth when an untimely fall on the last lap dropped him to 12th. Haarup was 11th overall via 12-12 scores.

With more data acquired, 5.11 Triumph Factory Racing will have an opportunity to recollect on all that has been learnt as AMA Pro Motocross moves into a two-week break. The ninth round, which takes place at Unadilla on 15 August, kickstarts a sprint to the final chequered flag.

Jordon Smith:

"I had a hard crash in qualifier one, but two solid motos. I had decent starts and rode well. It was nothing crazy. I'm happy to head into the break with my best overall result of the season. I'll shoot for the top five in these last three rounds."

Mikkel Haarup:

"It was a tough weekend. We were making improvements on set-up and I felt like I put up a good fight, but I didn't get the start that I needed in moto one. I ran eighth in moto two before a crash on the last lap. We have had a couple of tough weekends, but we'll bounce back at Unadilla."

"Washougal was an overall positive day for the team. A very solid and consistent day for Jordon, who made a ton of bike improvements. Mikkel had a rough day, still recovering from his crash at Millville. It was good for him to get through the weekend healthy.
